2023 KIA Carnival: What We Know So Far
2023 KIA Carnival
2023 KIA Carnival – Carnival 2023 replaces the aging Sedona in the Kia lineup because the Korean car manufacturer aimed to capitalize on its famous and best-selling Telluride SUV.
The large wheels, crossover-like proportions, and the distinctive daytime running lights that flow into the grille give the impression of a high-end SUV to the van that reminds us of the Range Rover.
2023 KIA Carnival
The Carnival models are powered by a 290-hp 3.5-liter V-6 engine with front-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Several driver assistance features are offered as standard, including automatic emergency braking.
Infotainment technology gets improved too with optional dual-screen settings with digital meter and center touch screen with navigation.
Schtick gives Carnival handsome proportions, a strong presence, and may actually tempt some buyers to stay away from the sports equipment that has dominated the sales charts – not to mention the streets – lately. But if buyers want to use this new, most handsome MPV, they will have to pay at least $33,275 to do so.
That’s what Kia wants for the Carnival LX base, and there’s a $2,000 premium for the LX model with a “seating package,” an option that replaces the middle seat with two captain’s seats.
For those curious, Carnival’s starting price was $1,700 higher than Sedona’s bog-standard last year, but the new model includes plenty of stuff for extra money.
There are 12 standard active driver assistance features at Carnival (including blind-spot monitoring), maximum cargo space of 145 cubic feet (on LX, EX, and SX models with all rows of seats dropped), and space for up to eight passengers (with that seat).
Next up the Carnival staircase is the EX trim, which starts at $38,775 and gets standard comforts such as tri-zone automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch infotainment display replacing the 8.0-inch LX unit, and a power-operated rear door.
The Carnival SX model costs $42,275 and stirs everything from EX with luxurious touches like heated and ventilated front seats, double-screen back-seat entertainment arrangements to keep kids busy on long trips, parking cameras with surround displays, and parking collision avoidance systems.
Carnival SX Prestige crop model gets all the good stuff. If there’s an option for Carnival, this bad boy gets it as standard. That means a 12-speaker Bose sound system, a 12.3-inch digital driver screen, dual LED headlights, and pure leather upholstery trim are all standard.
All that luxury gear isn’t cheap, and the SX Prestige Carnival starts at $47,275. That may be a pretty big check to write about, but you get one handsome, very complete mobilizer who stands out in the minivan segment, regardless of what Kia thinks you should call it.
2023 KIA Carnival Engine
Carnival 2023 is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that produces a healthy 290 hp of power; Eight-speed automatic transmission is standard. Unfortunately, all-wheel drive is not on the menu, as Carnival will be offered only as a front-wheel-drive model.
Pacifica has an optional plug-in-hybrid powertrain, and the new Sienna for 2021 comes only as a hybrid. Still, we don’t expect Kia to offer such an arrangement at Carnival, at least not immediately. Kia says Carnival can attract up to 3,500 pounds.
During our initial trials, we were impressed with Carnival’s well-balanced driving and handling. It provides a smooth ride while sailing and feels calm around the corner.
2023 KIA Carnival Interior
Carnival Dashboard and front seat area are both more modern and accommodating than the outgoing Sedona. Large center console and optional Mercedes style Dual-screen infotainment system with digital gauge display is an important design change.
The SX-Prestige high-end trim comes with leather upholstery and a second-row seat reclined with a pop-up footrest. A panoramic sunroof is optional and provides a large opening in the second row so children can get some fresh air.
Kia says that interior space has been improved on the new Carnival; The wheelbase and overall length of the van have been extended to provide more space for people and cargo.
In our tests, we loaded 14 carry-on suitcases behind the third row of seats and a total of 48 suitcases with all seats folded. That’s a ton of cargo space, but it’s worth noting that Pacifica and Odyssey proved a little wider.
Interior technology and infotainment took a big leap at carnival 2022. While an 8.0-inch infotainment screen is standard, a 12.3-inch dual screen spanning two-thirds of the van’s dashboard is optional, with one serving as a digital gauge display and the other performing infotainment tasks.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standards. Up to nine USB ports fill the Carnival cabin. The rear-seat entertainment system is standard starting on the SX trim, but the Bose 12-speaker stereo is limited to the top-spec SX-Prestige trim.
