2023 KIA Stinger – The new Stinger offers a very similar premium look and feels as well as plenty of driving spirit, making it a great choice for fans on a budget.

It shares the base with the impressive Genesis G70 sedan, but the Stinger disguises its more spacious interior, larger cargo space, and hatchback lift doors with a sexy fastback roofline.

A pair of turbocharged engines are offered: a standard 300-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a bold 368-hp twin-turbo V-6 are available. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is also available for those who want it.

In addition to some style updates, the Stinger 2022 will replace the standard 255-hp four-cylinder turbo 2.0-liter engine with a more powerful 2.5-liter turbo-four engine. We hope for 2023 Stinger still carries the same engine.

The new engine produces 300 solid horsepower. Not to be outdone, the optional 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 received a slight increase in power from 365 hp to 368 thanks to a new variable exhaust system. Style enhancements include updated exterior lighting elements, a new wheel design, and a larger exhaust tip.

Inside, the Stinger 2023 will receive an overall upgraded material, a new piece of metallic trim, adjustable ambient lighting, and an optional 10.3-inch larger infotainment screen.

The sporty Stinger, first introduced in 2017 for the 2018 model year, serves as a halo vehicle and headlines a lineup of cars that includes the new Kia K5 (formerly KIA optima) and the tiny Kia Rio, both benefiting from style cues. Borrowed from their brother Stinger, said Vice President of Marketing Russell Wager.

300 HP Basic Engine

By 2021, the 2.0-liter engine has been replaced by a 300-hp turbocharged, 311 lb-ft 2.5-liter I-4 that Kia executives say will go from 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds. The 45-hp step-up for the entry model should attract more buyers, Wager said.

The Kia Stinger 2023 doesn’t have a manual transmission, and there are no plans to add it. The Stinger has an eight-speed automatic transmission with a paddle shifter.

Rear-wheel drive stingers are available with all torque vector wheels drive. With 2.5 liters, fuel economy is estimated at 22 mpg in the city, 32 on highways (an increase from 2.0, actually), and a combined 25 for rear-drive models and 21/29/24 mpg with all-wheel drive.

The V-6 produces 368 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque for an estimated speed of 4.7 seconds to 60 mph. Fuel economy is estimated at 18 mpg in the city, 25 on highways, and 20 mpg combined with rear-drive and 17/24/20 mpg with AWD.

Prices start at $36,090 for GT-Line entries. The 2021 Stinger starts at $34,135-difference $1,955. The GT1 starts at $43,690, and the GT2 starts at $51,290. Both are available with AWD.

Fuel Economy

The rear-drive, four-cylinder 2023 Stinger has the highest fuel economy estimate, with the city’s EPA rating of 22 mpg and highway 32. Naturally, the more powerful V-6 engines are less efficient, especially with all-wheel drive, estimated to drop to 17 mpg in the city and 24 highways.

While we haven’t tested the new 2.5-liter turbo-four on our 75 mph highway route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, the all-wheel-drive V-6 model we evaluated produced 26 mpg in that test. . For more information on stinger fuel economy, visit the EPA website.

Stinger’s interior is well designed and attractive, but its material or construction quality cannot match the Audi A4 or BMW 3 series.

Then again, Kia’s are much cheaper than the two German sedans. However, the Stinger offers a back seat that’s much more comfortable than many cars in this class — and the advantage feels bigger than the numbers suggest.

While stinger interiors are free from glaring errors and omissions, the overall effect is less polished than the efforts we enjoy from established luxury brands.

Stinger’s stated baggage volume will predict that it has by far the most cargo space in this set but only outperforms its competitors by a small margin in our real-world cargo testing.

We hope the Stinger will do better in this measurement with the hatchback’s wide aperture and long wheelbase. The center console is on the large side of a car, which helps offset the fact that the front door pocket is the smallest of this collection.

Stitching on the dashboard and three lines on the door give gt more pizzazz. The new 10.25-inch navigation screen is standard.

Wireless charging for smartphones and stingers now get a Blind Spot View Monitor that provides a live video view of adjacent paths in the instrument cluster when activated by a turn signal using the camera in the side-view mirror.

More features are standard, including more driver-assistance safety systems such as automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane guard assistance.

Other safety features include a secure exit warning, smart navigation-based cruising controls that slow the car down for a forward bend and help following the lane to keep the vehicle in the middle.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Kia’s infotainment system — called UVO — is well used in stingers and consists of an 8.0 or 10.3-inch touchscreen mixed with useful physical buttons. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as are six-speaker stereo systems.

Audiophiles can upgrade to the Harman/Kardon 15-speaker stereo system, and Kia also offers several other technological enhancements, such as wireless smartphone charging pads and navigation on the dashboard.

This spring will present Stinger Scorpion Special Edition 2022 with unique 19-inch black rims, black fenders, black mirrors, rear spoilers (which are colored with the body), exhaust ends with glossy black paint, and carbon-fiber trim in the center console.

Bookmakers see two levels of competition for Stinger. The most direct is the German (Audi A5 Sportback, BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe, which is expected to return after a year off, Mercedes-Benz C-Class), and Japan’s Infiniti Q50 well as the domestic second class. Kia targets young buyers looking for fun cars that offer added value with more standard features such as leather, and Stinger also differentiates itself from its new I-4. At least for now. We expect to see 2.5 liters go into the G70 eventually.

Kia has replaced the 2.0-liter turbo with a 2.5-liter turbo as a base power plant in the United States as part of the facelift. The range-topping option remains a 3.3-liter V6 with some strong slugs to take home the core, and it’s only slightly stronger than before on 368 horses rather than 365.

Torque remains at 376 pound-feet or 510 Nm from 1,300 rounds per minute, translating into a bit of on-the-road turbo lag. While Kia hasn’t designed the Stinger GT as a strip-slaying engine, this driver-focused sedan is impressive from 0 to 62 mph (100 kph) and more than a quarter of a mile.

Automann TVJerman had the opportunity to see the Stinger GT on a long stretch of asphalt on a sunny weekend, meaning weather conditions are perfect for straight-line performance.

With a little over 2,000 rpm on the tachometer, shooting up to 62 miles per hour takes 4.98 seconds and 4.49 seconds on the first and second rounds. 100 to 200 kph (62 to 124 mph) takes 14.45 seconds, and a quarter of a mile ends in 13 clicks.

These numbers won’t make the blood of straight-line fans boil because of the excitement, but don’t forget that Kia has other priorities for designing and redesigning the Stinger. Each trim level and engine selection is designed for comfort, handling, and overall experience, which can only be described as satisfying if you consider the MSRP Stinger.

The $36,090 excluding destination costs for the GT-Line RWD with a four-pot engine is great value, especially if you remember how much legroom the rear passenger has. Cargo volume is also not too bad at 23.3 cubic feet (660 liters), making stinger good even as a daily driver.
